San Martín Promotes Sustainable Vanilla for Forest Conservation in Alto Mayo
Share
The San Martin region is promoting the sustainable management of Vanilla pompona, a native orchid of high commercial value, as an economic alternative for local communities. With the support of the regional government and projects such as the “24 Concessions Project”, the aim is to regulate its production and commercialization, preventing the illegal over-extraction that threatens local ecosystems.
This effort not only promotes the conservation of Amazonian forests, but also generates opportunities to improve the quality of life of producers through vanilla, a key resource for the food and cosmetics industry.
